New Classes starting in October
LITTLE MOVERS:
Ages 10 months to 2.5 years + an Adult
This dance class for babies and toddlers focuses on movements for building your baby’s body and brain. Class begins with sharing developments and welcome songs to teach waving, clapping, stomping, and tapping movements. The remainder of the class utilizes fun props such as scarves, rhythm sticks, shakers, and stuffed animals to introduce a variety of dance and movement activities. Give your baby bonding time with you through the joys of song, dance, and creative movement!
BALLET CLASSES:
Ballet for Ages 3-4
Students are introduced to the etiquette and discipline of ballet in this 30 minute per week class. This is a perfect class for those dancers who love to spin and twirl, and be up on their toes! They will be exposed to the beginning fundamental positions and steps of ballet. They will start to learn the basic vocabulary and how to explore movement, rhythm and promote creativity through their imagination.
Ballet for Ages 5-6
Recommended for students ages 5 to 6 who have had 0-2 years of prior dance or creative movement experience
Beginning Ballet
Recommended for students ages 7 to 9 who have had 1-2 years of prior dance experience
Teen Ballet
This class is for our 'Teen' dancers who have never had ballet before or little experience and would like to start ballet at 10 years of age or older
Ballet 10 +
Recommended for students ages 10+ (or by invitation) who have had 3-4+ years of ballet experience
Conditioning for Pre-Pointe
Int/Adv Ballet
In this level we expand upon what the students have learned in ballet 1. More focus is put on the arm and head placement, while increasing the student’s movement repertoire and combination length.
Reserved for more advanced students, in ballet four students are expected to have a firm understanding of ballet placement and vocabulary. Students are pushed for increased flexibility, turns, and quality of presentation. Ladies in this level are ready for pointe work.
BALLET BOOTCAMP
This conditioning class uses the principles of ballet to lengthen and strengthen your body! We will tone the whole body with low impact body weight exercises both in the center and at the barre. No ballet experience needed! Bring a yoga mat and come as you are!
CHILDREN’S REV PROGRAM (AGES 3-7)
Combines creative movement with the basic techniques of Ballet, Tap, and Jazz.
REV I CLASSES (Ages 3-4)
Classes will explore ballet, tap, creative movement, and tumbling in this 45 minute per week class. Students will start to develop placement, body awareness, rhythm, and weight-transferring skills. It is a great class for children to develop self-esteem, discipline, and structure.
REV 2 CLASSES (Ages 4-5)
Classes will explore ballet, tap, creative movement, and tumbling in this 45 minute per week class. Students will start to develop placement, body awareness, rhythm, and weight-transferring skills. It is a great class for children to develop self-esteem, discipline, and structure.
REV 3 CLASSES (Ages 5-6)
Classes will explore ballet, tap, creative movement, introduction of jazz, and tumbling in this 45 minute per week class. Students will start to develop placement, body awareness, rhythm, and weight-transferring skills. It is a great class for children to develop self-esteem, discipline, and structure. *A great class to take along with this class is Pre-Ballet
REV 4 CLASSES (Ages 6-7)
Classes will explore tap and jazz, along with some tumbling. Students will start to develop placement, body awareness, rhythm, and weight-transferring skills. It is a great class for children to develop self-esteem, discipline, and structure. *A great class to take along with this class is Beginning Ballet
Pre-Company (Ages 7-9)
**Pre-requisite is the dancer needs to be in Ballet for ages 7-9
This class is geared towards dancers who are wanting to eventually dance competitively. We will focus on Jazz and Tap dance and get them ready to do a competition in late April or early May.
SHINING STARS
SHINING STARS (Ages 8 & older)
Our Shining Star Program allows any child the chance to shine through the movement of dance. This class is specifically for our dancers with special needs. We give them a safe environment where they can explore ballet, jazz and creative movement. Students will start to develop placement, body awareness, rhythm, and weight-transferring skills. It is a great class for children to develop self-esteem, discipline, and structure.
JAZZ CLASSES
Jazz dance is an exciting American art form rooted in social dance and jazz music that developed in the early 20th century. In the 1940’s, ballet and modern trained dancers began to blend their technical aspect of dance with the social improvisational style of jazz especially on Broadway stages. Jazz dance continues to evolve today, and the music used for class is often pop (street style jazz), or broadway musicals (theatre jazz). All jazz classes will begin center floor with a warm up that will include strengthening and stretching exercises to develop muscles and flexibility. Next, dancers will move into isolations (moving one part of the body in isolation such as hips, ribs, shoulders) which is an important part of jazz dance, as well as contractions and grounded fast footwork. Students will move across the floor to practice large motor movements, and will finish class with a quick study of choreography in order to learn how to count music and follow stage directions. Dancers will be encouraged to and supported to develop their own expression when performing and bringing their unique personalities to the movements.
Beginning Jazz (Ages 7-9)
Students will begin to explore the jazz dance art form with warm up, center floor, across the floor and quick study. The focus will be on learning jazz vocabulary, understanding the difference between parallel and turn out, how to safely stretch and strengthen their bodies, and locomotor movements such as skips, gallops, stylized jazz walks and runs.
Jazz 10 + (ages 10 & up with 3-5 years experience)
Dancers have a good foundation of basic jazz, and are ready for more challenging technique. Dancers at this level will be working towards further increasing their flexibility, strength, and balance, and will learn various leaps and types of turns. Dancers will begin to develop about proper alignment and body placement, and can learn at a faster pace.
Jazz 10 + Competition (ages 10 & up with 3-5 years experience
Dancers have a good foundation of basic jazz, and are ready for more challenging technique. Dancers at this level will be working towards further increasing their flexibility, strength, and balance, and will learn various leaps and types of turns. Dancers will begin to develop about proper alignment and body placement, and can learn at a faster pace. This class will be geared towards dancers doing a competition in late April or early May and give them an experience of doing competitive dance.
ACRO (ages 7 & older)
A style of dance made up of both jazz and tumbling techniques. Your dancer will learn basics of tumbling, brought to life with music and creative instruction
Int/Advanced jazz (ages 12 & up with 5+ years experience)
Dancers have a very strong foundation of jazz, and are ready for the challenges of a fast paced class to improve their skill and artistry.
BOYS HIP HOP (Ages 5 & Older)
Experience the latest craze in an all male class! The popular, present-day, stylized technique will excite all ages. Students will learn to interpret music and emphasize beats based on current music and music videos. They will also work on tricks.
BEGINNING HIP HOP (Ages 7 & older)
Experience the latest craze! The popular, present-day, stylized technique will excite all ages. Students will learn to interpret music and emphasize beats based on current music and music videos.
HIP HOP 10 +
Experience the latest craze! The popular, present-day, stylized technique will excite all ages. Students will learn to interpret music and emphasize beats based on current music and music videos. They continue to work on isolations and progress their skills
Adult Hip Hop
Adults with experience the latest craze and have fun! They will learn to interpret music and emphasize beats based on the current music and videos you all see!
CONTEMPORARY CLASSES
BEGINNING CONTEMPORARY (Ages 7 & older)
**Required to be taking Ballet for ages 7-9 or higher along with this class
Contemporary is a fusion of ballet and jazz techniques. Technique, choreography, and terminology are taught at this entry level. Conditioning and flexibility training, and musicality are introduced. This class combines the strength of jazz with the concept of turn out used in ballet technique. Included are basic barre exercises and center practice. Dancers will also demonstrate skills and combinations traveling across the floor.
INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED CONTEMPORARY (Ages 10 & older)
**Required to betaking Ballet 10 + or higher along with this class
These classes are for the developmental & the continuing lyrical student. All students will be placed by instructor through invitation only. Students must meet age requirements, mental and physical preparedness before being considered for advanced classes. Understanding the relationship between music and expression, the controlled movement with proper ballet and jazz technique are necessary. New and more complex material will be taught at an accelerated pace. The advanced levels combining skills from previous level classes and correlating steps to lengthy and complex combinations with correct technique, extensive terminology and knowledge of the art of dance itself.
CHRISTAN CONTEMPORARY(Ages 8 & older)
Christian Contemporary is a liturgical style of dance that will provide a space for dancers to praise and worship through movement and song. The movement style will be focused on modern/contemporary dance technique that allows for personal expression. Only christian music and themes will be used during class, as well as for the recital performance.
Tap
Tap dance classes are such a fun way for dancers to express themselves through movement, rhythm, and sound! Dancers in all classes will learn two styles of tap. Rhythmic tap styles have dancers using their taps and feet to make music, rhythm, and syncopation. Broadway tap styles also incorporate jazz and the whole body to tell a story.
Beginning Tap (Ages 7-9)
Students will begin to explore the tap dance art form with warm up, center floor, across the floor and quick study. The focus will be on learning tap vocabulary and basics such as brush, shuffle, foot isolations (heel, toe, ball), and ball change.
Tap 10 + (ages 10 and up with 2-4 years experience)
Dancers have a good foundation of basic tap, and are ready for more challenging technique. Dancers at this level can learn at a faster pace, and will progress into learning time steps, flaps, pull backs, wings, use syncopation, and create their own rhythms.
Int/Advanced tap (ages 12 and up with 5+ years experience)
Dancers have a very strong foundation of tap, and are ready for the challenges of a fast paced class to improve their skill and artistry
Beg/Int Adult Tap
Adults will begin to explore the tap dance art form with warm up, center floor, across the floor and quick study. The focus will be on learning tap vocabulary and basics such as brush, shuffle, foot isolations (heel, toe, ball), and ball change.
Musical Theatre: ages 7 & up
Musical theatre is a form of theatrical performance that combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting and dance. Classes will begin with theatre games and guided improvisation to help students to become more comfortable with each other while developing their own expression through movement. Classes will also include learning spoken dialogue and songs from various musicals, and we will have opportunities for families to view our mini performances throughout the year, culminating with the end of year recital.
Musical Theatre 10 + : ages 10 & up
Musical theatre is a form of theatrical performance that combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting and dance. · Basic ballet focus: intro to positions, basic steps with focus on coordination/expression, intro to ballet etiquette
(Beginner) Ballet ages 7-9
· Entry level training, pre-ballet experience beneficial but not required
· Training focus: positions, basic steps with focus on coordination/expression, intro to ballet terminology, build on ballet etiquette
Intermediate Ballet (ages 8-10)
· 3-4 years of dance experience including previous ballet training
· Training focus: confidence with positions, confidence with basic steps, barre/center/traveling combinations, enhance focus on posture/technique, development of artistry/stage presence, strong understanding of ballet terminology and etiquette
· Conditioning for pre-point level (recommended at age 9.5-10 if interested in pursuing pointe work)
Intermediate/Advanced Ballet
· 4 to 5+ years of dance experience including previous ballet training
· Training focus: mastery of positions, confidence with entry level and intermediate steps, working knowledge of ballet terminology and class components including barre, center: adagio/allegro/traveling combinations, turns and jumps/leaps, progression of posture awareness/alignment, continued development of artistry/stage presence/musicality, strong understanding and demonstration of etiquette
· Pre-point level (age 9.5 to 10 if interested in pursuing pointe work)
Advanced Ballet
· 5-6+ years of dance experience including previous ballet training
· Training focus: mastery of positions, confidence with intermediate steps ready for advanced training including multiple rotation turns/adding beats to footwork, strong working knowledge of ballet terminology and class components including barre, center: adagio/allegro/traveling combinations, turns and jumps/leaps, refinement of posture awareness/alignment, continued development of artistry/stage presence/musicality, strong understanding and demonstration of etiquette
· Pointe level
Conditioning/Pre-Pointe 1
· Focus on core, leg and foot intrinsic strengthening in preparation for pre-pointe shoe fitting (Fall semester)
· Training in sewing/managing pre-pointe shoes (Winter semester)
· Training in pre-pointe shoes at the barre for pointe work
· Use of pre-pointe shoes in the center to master balance/foot articulation with the shank and box in preparation of transition to pointe shoes
Pre-Pointe 2
· Student already has pre-pointe shoes (or recommended to be fit at start of Fall semester)
· Use of pre-pointe shoes in the center to master balance/foot articulation with the shank and box in preparation of transition to pointe shoes (Fall semester)
· As strength/technique progress will recommend fitting and transition to pointe shoes (timing individualized to each student)
