Class Description

TODDLER & ME CLASSES 

Toddler & Me dance classes are for children 18 months up to the age of 3 years. Music, movement, balance and the basic dance steps are introduced in a fun, friendly and positive manner in this 30 minute class. We ask that mom or dad or another loved one participates with your tiny dancer. We are offering these in 4 week session starting in October 2018

 

BALLET CLASSES:


MINI BALLET (Ages 3-4)

Students are introduced to the etiquette and discipline of ballet in this 30 minute per week class. This is a perfect class for those dancers who love to spin and twirl, and be up on their toes! They will be exposed to the beginning fundamental positions and steps of ballet. They will start to learn the basic vocabulary and how to explore movement, rhythm and promote creativity through their imagination.


PRE BALLET (Ages 5 & up)

Students are introduced to the etiquette and discipline of ballet in this 45 minute class. They will learn the format of a ballet class with barre and center exercises. They will be exposed to fundamental positions and steps and begin to learn basic vocabulary. Dancers will explore movement, expression, and rhythm through exercises that promote creativity and imagination.


BEGINNING BALLET (Ages 6 & older)

Students continue to grown and evolve in the etiquette and discipline of ballet in this 60 minute class. They will continue to build on the format of a ballet class with barre and center exercises. They will be exposed to fundamental positions and steps and begin to learn basic vocabulary. Dancers will explore movement, expression, and rhythm through exercises that promote creativity and imagination.


BALLET 1

This class teaches the basics of ballet. Students review the positions of the feet and arms, and further their ballet vocabulary. Class contains basic ballet barre and center floor work.


BALLET 2

In this level we expand upon what the students have learned in ballet 1

. More focus is put on the arm and head placement, while increasing the student’s movement repertoire and combination length.


BALLET 3

This is for students with a good understanding of ballet placement. Continued emphasis is put on the use of the upper body and port de bras. The level of difficulty and length of combinations increases. This is a pre-pointe level.


BALLET 4-6

Reserved for more advanced students, in ballet four students are expected to have a firm understanding of ballet placement and vocabulary. Students are pushed for increased flexibility, turns, and quality of presentation. Ladies in this level are ready for pointe work.


ADULT BALLET/BARRE (18 & older)

This 45 minute class that utilizes the ballet barre and the basics of ballet technique to give yourself a workout.


CHILDREN’S REV PROGRAM (AGES 3-7)

Combines creative movement with the basic techniques of Ballet, Tap, and Jazz.


REV I CLASSES

Classes will explore ballet, tap, creative movement, and tumbling in this 45 minute per week class. Students will start to develop placement, body awareness, rhythm, and weight-transferring skills. It is a great class for children to develop self-esteem, discipline, and structure.


REV 2 CLASSES

Classes will explore ballet, tap, creative movement, and tumbling in this 45 minute per week class. Students will start to develop placement, body awareness, rhythm, and weight-transferring skills. It is a great class for children to develop self-esteem, discipline, and structure.


REV 3 CLASSES

Classes will explore ballet, tap, creative movement, introduction of jazz, and tumbling in this 60 minute per week class. Students will start to develop placement, body awareness, rhythm, and weight-transferring skills. It is a great class for children to develop self-esteem, discipline, and structure. *A great class to take along with this class is Pre-Ballet


REV 4 CLASSES 

Classes will explore tap and jazz, along with some tumbling. Students will start to develop placement, body awareness, rhythm, and weight-transferring skills. It is a great class for children to develop self-esteem, discipline, and structure. *A great class to take along with this class is Beginning Ballet


SHINING STARS 


SHINING STARS (Ages 6 & older)

Our Shining Star Program allows any child the chance to shine through the movement of dance. This class is specifically for our dancers with special needs. We give them a safe environment where they can explore ballet, jazz and creative movement. Students will start to develop placement, body awareness, rhythm, and weight-transferring skills. It is a great class for children to develop self-esteem, discipline, and structure.


PRE-COMPANY (Ages 6 & Older)

**pre-requisite is the dancer needs to be in pre-ballet or beginning ballet class

This class focus on tap and jazz technique. It is to give dancer’s more in-depth technical training than the recreational classes provide.  With this class, they get the opportunity to attend a local dance competition in the Grand Rapids area in April/May.


JAZZ CLASSES


BEGINNING JAZZ (Ages 8 & older)

Jazz classes explore the wide range of jazz styles. Students will focus on strength, flexibility, and isolations as well as the basic jazz technique. Jazz basics will progress to leaps and turns.


INTERMEDIATE JAZZ (Ages 10 & older)

Jazz class continues to build on the fundamentals of jazz and focus on strength, flexibility, and isolations. They will progress into harder leaps and multiple turns.


ADVANCED JAZZ (Ages 13 & older)

This class continues to build on the fundamentals of jazz and progress the dancers in their strength, flexibility, leaps and turns.


JAZZ FUNK (10 & older)


ADULT JAZZ (18 & older)

Adult jazz classes explore the wide range of jazz styles.Students will focus on strength, flexibility, and isolations through a strong technique. Jazz basics will progress to leaps and turns.


HIP HOP CLASSES 


BOYS HIP HOP (Ages 5-9)

Experience the latest craze in an all male class! The popular, present-day, stylized technique will excite all ages. Students will learn to interpret music and emphasize beats based on current music and music videos. They will also work on tricks.


BOYS HIP HOP (Ages 10 & older)

Experience the latest craze in an all male class! The popular, present-day, stylized technique will excite all ages. Students will learn to interpret music and emphasize beats based on current music and music videos. They will also work on tricks.


BEGINNING HIP HOP (Ages 8 & older)

Experience the latest craze! The popular, present-day, stylized technique will excite all ages. Students will learn to interpret music and emphasize beats based on current music and music videos.


INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED HIP HOP (11 & older)

Experience the latest craze! The popular, present-day, stylized technique will excite all ages. Students will learn to interpret music and emphasize beats based on current music and music videos. They continue to work on isolations and progress their skills


CONTEMPORARY CLASSES


BEGINNING CONTEMPORARY (Ages 8 & older)

**Pre-requisite is the dancer needs to be in Ballet 1 or higher

Contemporary is a fusion of ballet and jazz techniques. Technique, choreography, and terminology are taught at this entry level. Conditioning and flexibility training, and musicality are introduced. This class combines the strength of jazz with the concept of turn out used in ballet technique. Included are basic barre exercises and center practice. Dancers will also demonstrate skills and combinations traveling across the floor.


INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED CONTEMPORARY (Ages 11 & older)

**pre-requisite is to be in Ballet 3 or higher

These classes are for the developmental & the continuing lyrical student. All students will be placed by instructor through invitation only. Students must meet age requirements, mental and physical preparedness before being considered for advanced classes.  Understanding the relationship between music and expression, the controlled movement with proper ballet and jazz technique are necessary. New and more complex material will be taught at an accelerated pace. The advanced levels combining skills from previous level classes and correlating steps to lengthy and complex combinations with correct technique, extensive terminology and knowledge of the art of dance itself.


TAP


BEGINNING TAP (Ages 8 & older)

This class with multiple ability levels will focus on tap fundamentals including basic tap steps, cramp rolls, center and across the floor work. Tap dancers make frequent use of syncopation. This is great for dancers to learn he basics of rhythm, beats, and how they coincide.


INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED TAP (Ages 11 & older)

This class with multiple ability levels will focus on tap fundamentals including basic and intermediate tap steps, wings, cramp rolls, & pull backs. It will continue to grow and progress rhythm, beats and syncopation.


ADULT TAP (Ages 18 & older)

This class with multiple ability levels will focus on tap fundamentals including basic tap steps, cramp rolls, center and across the floor work. Tap dancers make frequent use of syncopation. This is great for dancers to learn he basics of rhythm, beats, and how they coincide.


TUMBLING 


TUMBLING (Ages 5-9)

Designed to help each student progress at their own pace. Each class will include stretching, basic skills such as rolls, cartwheels, handstands, and backbends. As students progress, they will learn to apply these skills to new, advanced tricks such as one-handed cartwheels, back walkovers, and front limbers.
